How we compared

We have not test-burned the other stoves. The comparison uses the figures each seller states: price, burner size, burn time per fill, maximum heat output and minimum room volume. Where a seller doesn't state room volume, we say so.

The burner is the biggest difference. A small burner (0.3–1 L) is cheap but burns briefly or gives little heat. A larger burner gives longer evenings without refilling. Check the minimum room volume too: it decides whether the stove suits your room at all.

We update this comparison every season.
